Faculty Fellows

About the Program

The John Muir Institute Fellows Program is a powerful tool for growing our community of scholars and increasing the impact of science on our society. Each year, in consultation with our leaders and advisors, we identify five to eight individuals who epitomize the mission and values of our institute: connecting people, planet, and the economy through sustainable environmental solutions. We directly support their work with awards that range between $5,000 and $10, 000, with few strings attached. Fellows are encouraged to find ways to translate their research to stakeholders outside of the university. New community ties are forged through the scholars’ creative approaches to making their work accessible and responsive to other audiences. Several of the fellows have used the grants to jumpstart new initiatives in the institute, contribute to new proposals, and build a more cohesive academic community, including the expectation that fellows advance our principles of diversifying environmental science
