How the Delta is Monitored - A series of Three Brown Bag Seminars

The Delta Independent Science Board (Delta ISB) will undertake a broad review of monitoring efforts in the Delta. This Monitoring Enterprise Review will investigate numerous programs across the natural, biological, and social sciences. This Brown Bag series is intended to cover the state of monitoring in the Delta as seen from a wide range of perspectives. Extended discussions with the Delta ISB, invited guests, and attendees will follow each seminar for 60 to 90 minutes.

Seminar 1: Monitoring the effectiveness of
Tidal Wetland Restoration for the Benefit of Native Fishes

Stacy Sherman, Ph.D., CA Dept. of Fish and Wildlife
Friday, Nov. 17, 2017  1:00-2:00 p.m.
(Note the atypical time)

  • Dr. Sherman will provide a brief overview of the Fish Restoration Program and description of current efforts to develop standard methods for monitoring the effectiveness of tidal wetland restoration.

Seminar 2: IEP Monitoring Surveys and Information Needs
in the 21st Century


Steve Culberson, Ph.D., Interagency Ecological Program
Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018  1:30-2:30 p.m.

  • Dr. Culberson will provide a brief history and overview of IEP monitoring programs and how they are coordinated to inform management. He will touch on key issues from a 9-agency perspective that are important for the monitoring enterprise review and science investing.

Seminar 3: Considerations from the
CA Water Quality Monitoring Council


Karen Larsen, State Water Resources Control Board
Friday, Jan. 5, 2018  12:00-1:00 p.m.

  • Ms. Larsen will provide updates on current activities to coordinate and improve water quality monitoring and assessment. She will describe key issues important for the monitoring enterprise review.
