John Muir Institute of the Environment

Logo Mark for the John Muir Institute of the Environment

The John Muir Institute of the Environment supports UC Davis publication standards, including the color palette. The colors for University of California campuses are blue and gold. At UC Davis the official colors are Pantone (PMS) 295 dark blue and Pantone 132 gold. The UC Davis color palette has been modified for use in special circumstances, including color formats for printing on uncoated paper and for printing in 3-color, and the alternative versions of the logo mark relfect those modifications.

Glossary:

  • RGB for Web : Web safe colors and resolution.
  • RGB: A three-color printing method with red, green, and blue inks. Some applications, such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint convert all images to RGB regardless of printer inks.
  • CMYK: A four-color printing method with cyan, magenta, yellow, black inks. Usually used in print applications such as Adobe products (Illustrator, InDesign) or Quark.
  • GIF: A pixel-based format using no more than 256 colors used primarily for Web graphics with areas of flat color. GIF stands for graphic interchange format.
  • PNG: A pixel-based format that works well with Microsoft applications such as Word and PowerPoint. PNG stands for portable network graphic.
  • EPS: A scalable vector format used mostly for print applications such as Adobe products (Illustrator, InDesign) or Quark. EPS stands for encapsulated postscript.
