Population Genetics

Genetic diversity is an essential component of biological diversity. The loss of genetic diversity can have many important negative consequences for populations, especially those already at low numbers. Genetics are the basis for all organismal characteristics, and are the raw materials upon which natural selection acts. Genetics can be used to infer history of lineages and population dynamics, as well as processes such as the movement individuals between populations.
