Biodiversity conservation requires a sophisticated understanding of the processes that influence populations and communities. What factors limit species distributions? How do species interact with one another and the physical environment? What mechanisms allow species to coexist? How do populations respond to disturbance, and how do changes in one species’ population influence the behavior of other species? Researchers study a wide variety of species and communities in order to answer these and other questions.
