Plants

California's Mediterranean climate and diverse topography and geology have resulted in a rich flora. In fact, California contains more plant diversity than the rest of the U.S. and Canada combined. Among this diversity are thousands of rare, threatened and endangered species. These species are threatened by many forces including habitat destruction, displacement by non-native species and climate change. Understanding the ecology of these plants is essential for making appropriate conservation decisions.
