The critically endangered coho salmon has been struggling to return to the creeks of West Marin's San Geronimo Valley, where they lay eggs to renew the salmonid cycle of life. Peter Moyle, professor at UC Davis, has been tracing the flow of marine nutrients from chinook runs. Salmon runs are important in providing nutrients to coastal, stream, and ocean ecosystems, as well as inland ecology. The dwindling number of coho salmon could have lasting effects on the environment.
