A UC Davis study has shown that the increasing temperatures in streams could cause the extinction of Chinook salmon in California by the end of the century. However, Lisa Thompson, director of the UC Davis Center for Aquatic Biology and Aquaculture, says that by reducing diversions for hydropower generation at the warmest time of the year, salmon populations can be preserved for at least a few decades
