History, Culture

History is essential for understanding the cultural, economic, philosophical, technical, and scientific movements and events that have led to various worldviews and situations that characterize the modern world. The way in which people have interacted with, valued, and exploited nature has changed dramatically through history. Every environmental problem has its roots in historical events that have led to patterns of thought and behavior that do harm to the ability to the planet to sustain life. The solutions to these problems depend on an understanding of those histories and how they have shaped culture.
