Habitat restoration is an important tool for achieving conservation objectives by increasing the habitat and ecosystem service value of impaired lands. Achieving restoration goals requires both a comprehensive understanding of the ecological constraints and opportunities of a given system and the technical skills to implement the necessary changes. This often requires a manipulation of both the physical and biological environment of a given site.
