John Muir Institute of the Environment

Giving to JMIE

Government representatives, researchers, educators, students and the public come to us for scientific evidence and improved comprehension of pressing environmental issues. Our network of affiliates spans the globe and our discoveries are meaningful to resource and ecosystem management in and beyond California.

We seek private support from individuals, businesses, and public and private organizations for projects and initiatives that hold promise for improving societal understanding of the world's systems.

Grants and Fellowships for Environmental Scholarship

Donors make a personal impact through support of talented individuals with the potential to change the world. Fellowships and grants can be specified to apply to graduate students, researchers or faculty. We invite donors to consider contributing to the Muir Fellowships in Environmental Scholarship for graduate students. Fellowship and grant support can also be applied to an area of your interest.

Endowed Lecture Series and Guest Speakers

Endowments typically bear the names of the donors, reflect their interests and serve as an enduring testament to their generosity. Endowing a lecture series is a meaningful way to bring distinguished expert speakers to UC Davis that will engage the community and introduce new ideas to address complex environmental problems. Donations for lecture series or guest speakers could support a number of speakers in an academic year, a visiting scholar for a period of time, or a single distinguished speaker for a one-time event.

Center for Watershed Sciences

The Center for Watershed Sciences is a group of top experts from the physical and biological sciences who are working together and with stakeholders to fully understand river, stream an estuary systems in California. Center researchers work to strengthen the scientific foundation for sustainable and cost-effective restoration and management of these ecosystems.

Tahoe Environmental Research Center

The Tahoe Environmental Research Center is dedicated to research, education and public outreach on lakes and their surrounding watersheds and airsheds. Lake ecosystems include the physical, biogeochemical and human environments, and the interactions among them. The Center is committed to providing objective scientific information for restoration and sustainable use of the Lake Tahoe Basin.

UC Davis Natural Reserve System

The UC Natural Reserve System is the largest and most diverse set of university-owned and operated reserves in the world. These reserves provide secure sites for long-term environmental research, education and public outreach. They enable monitoring of environmental health, and provide a baseline for ecosystem restoration, in the context of California's rapidly growing population and the changing global environment. Six reserves are administered by the Davis campus representing a wide variety of habitats in close proximity to the campus.
