California’s water management system is deteriorating—on both economic and environmental fronts. Only a broad integrative approach will reverse the decline, according to a new book co-authored by experts from the Center for Watershed Sciences.

Effects on Water Resources

Global and regional climate models predict drastic changes in precipitation patterns around the world. Some regions will receive more water but many will receive drastically less. Many areas with large human populations, such as the U.S. Southwest, and sub-Saharan Africa are predicted to experience increasing drought. Understanding the impact that these precipitation patterns will have on plants and wildlife, agriculture, and drinking water is essential for resource planning, conservation, and human welfare.
