This course focuses on habitat conservation planning, design, and management techniques for natural resources at wide spatial scales. It examines ecological theory, methods, policy, and case studies as it relates to the establishment and management of conservation areas in cultural landscapes for endangered species and natural communities. Climate change, landscape ecology, and reserve design are recurrent themes in the course.

Suggested background: A course in introductory biology, general ecology, and/or physical geography is recommended.

Suitable for graduate students in Geography, Ecology, Community Development, or Transportation Studies.
